Plus, it’s designed with innovative materials that will stand up to the most demanding installations and conditions. This pump is self-priming for quick, easy start-up and has been performance and pressure tested to ensure superior quality.

For over 12 years I serviced my own pool for the most part, but about 2 years ago my pump motor went out and I called a local company to come out and fix it, 4 visits, much stress and $315.00 later it worked and stopped leaking... until now. The "tech" over-tightened the body clamp and that's where it burst open releasing full pressure... luckily I was home so I could shut it off and prevent a possible disaster. The old unit was 1 horse and I thought it may have been underpowered because I have a solar heater on the roof so I took a chance and went up to 1 1/2 horse.

I bought this Pentair pool pump because it said it was stainless steel ( I never did see evidence for that claim ) and because it was designed with union fittings for 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch PVC which really made it easy to install, which is extremely important because I'm basically a cripple. It works perfectly, the electrical hook ups were ready for 220 which is the way to go. This thing looks great and is quieter than the last one, so the verdict is : great deal on a great pump.

Pentair LA01N Energy Efficient Awesome Pool Pump & Quick Disconnect Hoses

This Pentair pool pump with energy efficient single speed universal booster pump has 3/4-Horsepower, 115/230-Volt. Full Load 13.0/6.5-Amps, 1.50- SF and 1.13-SFHP. Ideal replacement for pressure-side booster pumps. Use with legend platinum, legend platinum truck series, and legend automatic pool cleaners. Hose and adapters included. Made from durable, corrosion-proof materials, and provides 50-PSI at 12-GPM. Measures 16-inch length by 9-1/4-inch width by 10-inch height.

This is the exact same make/model that was hard connected to my system, a Pentair pool pump motor. The hoses and quick disconnects we easy to hook up after a quick trip to Pentair pool pump for glue, primer and a couple connectors. There are two things to be aware of:
  • The quick disconnects are easy to cross thread, so be sure to line up the compression nut.
  • Don't tighten the compression nut too tight or you will pinch through the hose. That's not a big deal, just shorten the flex line a little and reconnect. It doesn't take that much pressure on the compression nut to get a good seal on the hose.
After two weeks so far so good, motor runs well and is quiet, instructions do not explain how to connect the hoses to your system, only to the motor, but if you maintain your own equipment it's not hard to figure it out. The packaging could be improved as the capacitor cover on the top was knocked off in transport but it could be screwed back on without any apparent damage. It does not come with the electrical elbow connector so you may need to buy a new one if like mine was over 15 years old and damaged (only cost about $3 from Home Depot). I just hope it runs for 15 years like the old one, we will see.

Original Pentair pool pump went out and the unit quickly arrived in less than 3 days. It was very easy to install and works great. I would recommend this product and will use this channel to replace my other pool components when needed.

Intex Pool Pump Krystal Clear Saltwater System No More Chemicals and it's Easy to Use

Intex Pool Pump Krystal Clear Saltwater System
The Intex pool pump krystal clear saltwater system eliminates bacteria and algae from pool water using virtually undetectable amounts of economical, eco friendly salt. this system produces low levels of natural chlorine that swimmers neither feel nor smell. the result is soft, fresh, clean water without the potential harsh side effects of packaged pool chemicals.

No More Chemicals and it's Easy to Use
No more chemicals and it's easy to use for this Intex pool pump. I managed to get this installed in less than 15 minutes and it's keeping my pool clean as can be, even with my anemic pump. I have the Intex 16' x 48" Ultra Frame pool. My only mistake was listening to an individual at the pool store about how much salt to add to my pool and bought way too much (hadn't received the unit with the instructions at that point). No big loss, I have plenty in reserve now. I also purchased the salt test strips, not really needed in my opinion as the device will tell you when to add salt or if you accidentally add too much. The device does have a GFC built in and so far it seems to work well.

Which leads to my only complaint. I'm using Intex pool pump that came with my pool and the GFC in the device trips with the slightest bit of moisture, even a slight dew. The Salt Water System will shut off when there is no pump flow (good). I've had to schedule my Salt Water System to run later in the morning when I can verify that my pump didn't get tripped from moisture (which happens every night). Not an issue with the Salt Water System as the GFC works well, just my pump. My solution is that I'm ordering a sand pump, better any way and will definitely do a better job on keeping the water pure. Oh yes, you can't really taste the salt in the water, like a mild saline and no eye burn.

Intex 28681EG 120V 16 Inch Krystal Clear the Pool Filter Pump is So Powerful

Intex pool pump with sand filters are one of the most desirable methods to keep pool water clear and sparkling. Not only does all-natural, inexpensive sand do an excellent job of filtering water, it needs replacement only once every five years. Saltwater systems are known for their ability to keep pool water clean and safe, while eliminating the harshness of traditional packaged chlorine.

This is my first sand filter and my second saltwater pump. I love it so far. I already knew that I wanted a saltwater system for my Intex pool pump above ground pool as I had one in my last pool - I decided to go the extra mile and get the Intex pool pump Sand Filter Pump and Saltwater System and I'm glad I did. My son and a friend set of the pool and installed the system - after a couple of days the water stared to get orange/brown (I have well water and I believe it was the extra minerals and such in it). We ran an 8 hour boost for two days and the pool has been clear and clean ever since. This is a heavy duty system not a toy, it is worth the money I paid for it (more than the pool cost) and I expect it to last a good long time.

If you are not familiar with a saltwater system - expect to be amazed. You add salt once (maybe twice if you didn't add enough to begin with), set the system's timer to come on automatically and forget it. No chlorine, no red eyes, no green hair and very little maintenance to it at all. Occasionally, you need to vacuum out your pool or this Intex pool pump. I bought this system (larger than my pool needs) and have not had to vacuum it out just a couple of leaves on the bottom that I can scoop out.

How does my in-ground Pump operate?
Hayward in-ground pumps are self-priming centrifugal pumps. These pumps have a vacuum chamber, commonly known as a pump housing. The Hayward Pool Pump housing must be filled with water in order to create a vacuum, resulting in the pump drawing the water out of your pool or spa. The pump housing will remain full of water while the pump is on, and will remain full or partially full when the pump is shut off.

  • When powered on, the motor will begin to rotate. Two-speed pumps will power on a pre-selected speed or with some controllers, it will cycle at high before changing to the lower speed. The motor spins the pump impeller, located inside the pump volute. While the motor is rotating, the tips of the impeller are hydraulically sealed inside the pump diffuser, which is responsible for self-priming.
  • Self-priming can only occur if the pump has a diffuser all in ground Hayward pumps have an internal diffuser. It helps to eliminate any air approaching into the pump housing from the suction piping. As all the air is removed from the system, you will notice bubbles returning to the pool through the return fittings. A full prime occurs when the bubbles stop returning to the pool and the pump basket is full of water. The filter pressure will rise as the pump reaches full prime. The actual gallons per minute (GPM) vary with the type of pump, horsepower, pipe size, distance from pool and other restrictions within the plumbing system.
  • Hayward Pool Pump self-priming pumps are very dependable and simple in design. They require a sufficient supply of water from the pool or spa, and no air in the suction lines. Air could come from a loose strainer cover, a leak in any valve, a pinhole in any suction line or a crack or loose connections in the underground piping.

Do I need to have a strainer basket in my pump pot?
Yes. Without the strainer basket, debris will clog the impeller in the pump volute causing the pump to cease moving water. Be sure to clean your strainer basket, as well as the skimmer baskets, so water flow is not obstructed and the pump is not overworked.

How do I winterize my pump?
To winterize a Hayward Pool pump, turn off the electrical circuit breaker that supplies power to the pump. Also, make sure that there is NO water left inside the pump. All Hayward Pool Pumps are equipped with drain plugs that will allow excess water to drain once the plugs are removed. Contact your local Hayward dealer for proper winterization procedures.

How many hours per day should I run my pump?

There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it's time of heaviest use.

Pump Control & Programming

After first experimenting with using this pump with my existing pool pump system controller I determined that my existing system really did not offer the level of control I wanted. I switched to using the built in pump timer and controller.

The built in control is easy to use and offers the ability to program 8 different time schedules, each operating at a different speed. I use all 8 to operate my pump for about 18 hours a day.

Energy efficiency

The Hayward Pool Pump with EcoStar provides a built in watt meter. Although I do not know if it really provides accurate watt measures it does allow you to understand how significantly you will effect power use as you turn up the pump RPM.

Previously I was operating my pool pump between 4-8 hours a day depending on the time of year and pool use. According to my TED 5000 power meter the old pump used about 2000 watts of electricity. At an average of 6 hrs per day, 30 days a month (360kwh) and a cost of $.30/kwh for peek power rates the old pump cost me $100/month to operate. After switching to the EcoStar and settling on a timer+speed schedule that works well I have dropped my power use to less than 100kwh/month or roughly $25/month. This gives me a savings of $75/month so in just over a year I have paid for the pump cost in electricity savings.

Water Quality

Since I now run my pump much longer, going from 6 hours to 18 hours, the water is almost always circulating and very clean. I found that by varying the pump speed throughout the day with most of the time spent running 800-1200 RPM, with a couple of brief intervals between 1400-1700 the water is extremely clear. It also seems that it is easy to keep the water quality balanced.

Noise level

At the highest speed the Hayward Pool Pump with EcoStar seems slightly quieter than my old pump. However I never operate it at the highest speed. In fact I programmed the pump to never exceed 2400 RPM. My pump is installed in a small pool house and the vast majority of the time the pump runs at a low enough speed that it is inaudible from the pool area.
